Secret Tattoos to be revealed at Lexington Tattoo Project party

This Friday is the Lexington Gallery Hop in Lexington, Kentucky. The grand finale of the event will take place at Buster's Billards & Backroom where the Lexington Tattoo Project will be unveiling a unique art project involving over 200 members of the community.

The project began with local poet Bianca Spriggs writing a poem about her hometown of Lexington. Afterwards Lexington Tattoo Project founders Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova broke up the text into 200 sections. These pieces of texts were then tattooed onto 200 Lexington residents along with dots of ink. When combined the text reveals the entire poem and the dots create a single image. There is one special surprise for the community and the participants on Friday night--one person has the complete image and poem tattooed on their body, and that person has yet to be revealed.

The project came about from a need to build a community through art. Many cities have built thriving arts communities over the last few years and Gohde and Todorova hope that this project will help in building such a community in Lexington. Gohde has stated that many of the participants in the project have told others about it, and have built long lasting ties with others that have participated in this project.
