Brits in Essex Cautioned Over Unregistered Tattoo Artists

Health concerns are always in issue when considering a tattoo. Clients and artists can run the risk of infection or contamination if proper safety measures are not taken. The best way to minimize these risks is to go to a properly trained and registered tattoo artist. However, much like in the US, many young Brits are looking to unregistered artists for cheaper prices on tattoo work.

According to a recent article in Essex, UK about 30 percent of young people aged 25-35 are tattooed. As a result many people have offered in home operations, which may use substandard equipment and less than sterilize environments. These unsafe conditions can lead to major health risks such as infection or exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

The local district council has issued a statement urging citizens to use better judgement when seeking tattoo work. They are asked to report any establishment that may be breaking these health standards to the local health department and if anyone is suspected of giving tattoos to anyone under 18 years of age--also illegal in the UK--to report them to the local police.
